As doenças transmitidas pelo Aedes aegypti — dengue, zika e chikungunya — representam um risco à saúde materno-infantil no Brasil. Pesquisa conduzida pela Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz) e publicada na revista Nature Communications analisou mais de 6,9 milhões de nascidos vivos entre 2015 e 2020 e concluiu que a infecção por arboviroses durante a gravidez aumenta o risco de complicações no parto, prematuridade, baixo peso e pode levar até ao óbito neonatal.
O levantamento, realizado pelo Centro de Integração de Dados e Conhecimentos para Saúde (Fiocruz Bahia), mostra que os riscos variam conforme o tipo de vírus e o período da infecção. A dengue foi associada a partos antes do tempo, baixo peso ao nascer e anomalias congênitas. Já a zika apresentou efeitos mais severos, com destaque para o aumento de mais de duas vezes no risco de más-formações congênitas. A chikungunya também se revelou perigosa, elevando a probabilidade de morte neonatal e de alterações no desenvolvimento fetal.
Os impactos são mais severos em comunidades vulneráveis, onde a exposição ao mosquito transmissor é maior. Além do risco à saúde, o custo do cuidado de crianças com anomalias congênitas ou complicações neonatais recai, em grande parte, sobre famílias de baixa renda.
Período de maior infecção
Entre outubro e maio, a incidência de casos de dengue aumenta. Por isso, é preciso reforçar os cuidados, como eliminar lugares com água parada que podem se tornar focos do mosquito, como pneus, pratinhos de plantas e entulhos nos quintais, além de buscar uma unidade básica de saúde em caso de sintomas.
“Mesmo nos períodos de baixa transmissão, sempre a população que está com febre, dor no corpo, dor nas articulações, procure a unidade de saúde, porque sempre é importante pensar que pode ser um caso de dengue, de chikungunya ou de zika vírus, e a conduta é sempre indicada”, explica o secretário adjunto da da Secretaria de Vigilância em Saúde e Ambiente (SVSA) do Ministério da Saúde, Fabiano Geraldo Pimenta Junior.
O infectologista Julio Croda destaca a importância da vacinação contra a dengue de crianças de 10 a 14 anos para evitar o agravamento dos casos. “A vacina garante proteção, principalmente para as formas mais graves, para a hospitalização”, detalha.
No Brasil, a dengue é a arbovirose de maior incidência. De acordo com dados do Painel de Monitoramento de Arboviroses do Ministério da Saúde, em 2025 foram registrados mais de 1,5 milhão de casos prováveis da doença em todo o país, com 1,6 mil mortes.
